Ⓝightmare...

acrylic, wax crayon, foil, marker; 2011.

in what's become a personal holiday tradition, in lieu of anything of monetary value, i do cards for mah peeps. Mashups streamline 2 or more different flavors & then something groady gets birthed out-- just like on them har nature channels. anyway, this is for Perriwinkle, a pal whose seen me through fire.

⊚. Henry

marker on writing pad; 2012.
i aimed for a fitting "ironic"ish portrait, but couldn't think of anything for the last couple of days. i like, however, what i coughed up at the last minute. sometimes the solution's staring you in the face ;)

created by Blake Edwards, Friz Freleng, and Hawley Pratt.

i don't know why this character was my earliest favorite, but i have a few theories...
doing large pieces is a personal rarity-- this is the size of a real live panther; best to keep paint buckets far off & hidden.

watching old clips, i'm reminded where i got a love of genre non-conformity. one week it was a harrowing post-rape story and another it was a zany noir yarn. whether as a test monkey or a track runner, life & mistakes were seen through various sets of eyes. corny at times, yeah, but i wouldn't go back and change a thing.

just a trio of bad guys who are worse at being bad, from what i know of my limited pokéknowledge. they seem to harken back to '70s primetime cartoons with their slapstick buffoonery and talking animal-pal, so i added bell(bottom)s & whistles. originally i planned to use these baddies as a vehicle to satirize something that bothered me, but after a minute of false starts & lag & oh, yeah "life", i decided to just have fun and throw down. maybs there's a lesson in not over-thinkin'? i'll give it some thought.
